Our unique equine-assisted programs

At H.E.A.R.T of San Joaquin, we offer a diverse range of programs, each thoughtfully designed to meet specific needs through the incredible power of equine interaction. Experience personalized learning and significant growth in a supportive and engaging environment.

One-On-One Tutoring

Our intensive, one‑to‑one sessions offer completely personalized instruction for struggling readers ages 5 through adulthood. Unlike our small‑group programs, this option is fully tailored to each learner’s unique needs, pace, and skill profile. We begin with targeted assessments to identify specific reading challenges, then design individualized activities and structured practice to address those areas directly. Horse‑based encouragement aligned with PBIS principles helps keep learners motivated, regulated, and engaged throughout the process. Families receive ongoing parent support and take‑home practice materials to reinforce progress between sessions, ensuring consistent growth and meaningful gains.

Reading and Math Enrichment

Join our small‑group tutoring and enrichment programs focusing on reading and math. Children learn collaboratively, building confidence and academic skills in a fun, interactive setting with support from our equine partners. Through hands‑on activities, guided practice, and opportunities for peer interaction, students strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy skills while also developing communication, problem‑solving, and self‑regulation. The calming presence of horses helps create an encouraging environment where learners can stay engaged, take risks, and celebrate their progress.

Bridges: Neurodivergent Support

We support neurodivergent students by building communication skills, strengthening emotional regulation, and promoting confidence through calm, structured interaction with horses. Sessions also incorporate developmentally appropriate fine‑ and gross‑motor activities, such as simple grooming tasks, guided movement, and sensory‑friendly routines, to support coordination, body awareness, and readiness for learning.

Academic skills are integrated naturally into activities, including opportunities to practice vocabulary, sequencing, following directions, counting, and functional literacy within meaningful, hands‑on tasks.

Through individualized instruction in a predictable, supportive setting, students can practice self‑regulation, engage in communication at their own pace, build academic foundations, and experience meaningful growth while interacting with the horses in a safe, educational environment.

Early Learning Adventures (Mommy and Me)

Our “mommy and me” sessions are designed for toddlers to participate alongside a parent or caregiver, creating shared learning experiences in a supportive, horse‑centered environment. Adults join their child in each activity, helping model early communication, support vocabulary development, and encourage social interaction. The sessions also incorporate developmentally appropriate fine motor activities, such as grasping tools, manipulating objects, or completing simple hands‑on tasks, woven into playful, equine‑inspired learning moments. This collaborative format strengthens bonding while promoting early language, motor development, and confidence

Hope & Heart Down Syndrome Program

Our Down Syndrome Support Program offers a warm, structured environment where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We provide individualized instruction focused on communication, functional academics, social‑emotional skills, and increasing independence through clear routines and strengths‑based teaching.

Students engage in developmentally appropriate fine‑motor activities—such as grasp practice, hand‑strengthening tasks, and adapted tool use, to support everyday classroom skills.

Interactions with horses, including simple grooming and leading routines, provide additional opportunities to practice balance, posture, motor planning, and following directions within meaningful, hands‑on tasks.

Through calm interaction, predictable routines, and guided movement experiences, we create a sensory‑friendly, nurturing space where students build confidence, practice self‑regulation, and experience growth in ways that honor their unique abilities.

Why equine learning is transformative

Learning with horses is profoundly effective and enjoyable because it provides a multi-sensory, non-judgmental environment. Horses offer immediate, honest feedback, building self-awareness, empathy, and communication skills in a way traditional methods cannot. This natural connection reduces anxiety, increases engagement, and makes learning unforgettable for kids struggling with reading or needing social-emotional support. It's a unique approach to education in Stockton, California.
